The American Myth Center is committed to providing a safe room for our artists. With that in mind, we make the following statements.
The American Myth Center acknowledges the foundation of the American theatre has been built by white supremacy and therefore must always be taught and practiced with the tools of Anti-racism. We also recognize that this statement means nothing without action and accountability.
The American Myth Center acknowledges that the work of the storyteller must include a focus on accessibility for our artists and audience members with disabilities. The AMC strives to provide accommodations for people with disabilities in our programs including but not limited to accessibility technology, alternative methods of communication, physical accommodations, and flexibility in our practices.
The American Myth Center acknowledges, with respect, that the land we are on today is ancestral land of the Anikituwagi, more commonly known as the Cherokee. We recognize the Cherokee as the native people and original stewards of this land. We understand that there is a need to listen and learn from the people of this land. We acknowledge that an act of recognition is not enough to overcome the settler-colonial history that has attempted to eradicate indigenous people from the history and consciousness of these lands.
The American Myth Center practices in accordance with the Chicago Theatre Standards, established by Not in Our House.
